Persistent facial redness is one of the most common things we are asked about, and one of the least talked about publicly. People tend to assume it is just their complexion, or that the only option is covering it up. Often neither is true.
What the laser is actually targeting
Visible redness is usually blood — specifically, small dilated vessels near the surface of the skin. In rosacea these vessels become persistently widened, and over time some stay that way permanently rather than flushing and settling.
A vascular laser works by delivering light at a wavelength that haemoglobin absorbs strongly. The energy is absorbed inside the vessel, the vessel collapses, and the body clears it over the following weeks. Surrounding skin absorbs comparatively little of that wavelength, which is why the treatment can be selective.
The redness does not fade the moment you leave. Vessels clear over two to four weeks as the body reabsorbs them — judging results on the day is judging too early.
What it treats well
- Persistent facial redness across the cheeks and nose
- Visible broken capillaries and telangiectasia
- Cherry angiomas — the small bright red raised dots
- Spider veins on the face and body
What it does not do
Laser treats the visible vessels. It does not cure rosacea. Rosacea is a chronic condition with triggers — heat, alcohol, spice, sun, stress — and those triggers continue to exist after treatment. What changes is the baseline: the persistent redness is substantially reduced, so flushing starts from a calmer face and is less noticeable when it happens.
This matters because it shapes what a good outcome looks like. Expect a marked reduction in visible redness and a face that looks calmer day to day. Do not expect never to flush again.

What a session is like
Short. Most facial vascular work takes a matter of minutes. You will feel a warm snap as each pulse lands, with the cooling tip running throughout. Afterwards the area is usually pink for a few hours, and treated vessels may briefly look darker before they clear — that is expected, not a complication.
You can wear makeup the same day. Skip hot showers, saunas and the gym for twenty-four hours, and use sunscreen conscientiously for the following weeks.
Before you book
Come with a clean face and without a recent tan — both matter for safety. Tell us about any medications you take, particularly anything that increases light sensitivity, and mention any recent peels or other facial treatments.
If we do not think laser is right for your particular presentation, we will tell you so at the consultation rather than sell you a package. That conversation is free and takes twenty minutes.
Common questions
- Can laser cure rosacea?
- No. Laser treats the visible dilated vessels and substantially reduces persistent redness, but rosacea is a chronic condition and its triggers remain. What changes is your baseline — flushing starts from a calmer face.
- How many sessions does rosacea treatment take?
- Most people see meaningful change over three sessions, spaced several weeks apart so each round can clear before the next.
- How much does rosacea laser treatment cost in Calgary?
- A single session is $250, and a pack of three for facial flushing is $699. Smaller vascular work starts at $75 for a single vein and $95 for a cherry angioma.
- Does it hurt?
- Most people describe a warm snap with each pulse. A cooling tip runs throughout, and facial sessions are usually over in minutes.
- When will I see results?
- Treated vessels clear over roughly two to four weeks as the body reabsorbs them, so the change appears gradually rather than on the day.
They get advertised as the same thing at very different prices. The difference comes down to one property of the light — and it decides both your results and whether the treatment is safe for your skin tone.
Most Calgary clinics quote a single number and leave out how many sessions you need. Here is the full price list, the realistic session count, and what the total actually comes to.
